Dr. Hailey Walterman is a Los Angeles–based violist, educator, and performer with an active and multifaceted career spanning classical and commercial music. She has built a distinguished career as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer, collaborating with renowned artists and institutions across the country.

Dr. Walterman holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where she served as a Viola Teaching Assistant to Professor Roger Myers. She also holds a Master of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Music from Azusa Pacific University.

A dedicated and sought-after educator, Dr. Walterman maintains a thriving private studio in Los Angeles, where she is known for her structured, individualized approach to teaching. Her work focuses on developing strong technical foundations, musical independence, and expressive confidence in each student. She has held teaching positions with the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA), La Cañada High School, the University of Texas String Project, and the Austin Chamber Music Center.

An active freelance musician, she has performed with ensembles including the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, Riverside Philharmonic, and Central Texas Philharmonic, where she served as Assistant Principal Viola. She performs regularly in a wide range of concert settings across Southern California, including curated chamber and crossover performances. Her collaborations include appearances with artists such as Smokey Robinson, KYGO, Luis Miguel, Paul Anka, Michael Bublé, 2Cellos, and Father John Misty.

Her passion for chamber music has led her to work with esteemed ensembles including the Tokyo String Quartet, Takács Quartet, Miro Quartet, and Aeolus Quartet. She has also collaborated with artists including Midori Goto, Joshua Gindele of the Miro Quartet, Sibbi Bernhardsson of the Pacifica Quartet, and the Jerusalem Quartet. She was a semi-finalist in the Coltman Chamber Music Competition and has received multiple academic and performance scholarships.

Dr. Walterman’s work extends into studio recording, with credits spanning film, television, and commercial releases. She is featured as the solo violist on Viola Drama Textures (Inlet Audio), an expressive sample library centered on improvisational playing and subtle, voice-like textures for film and media composition. Her work on the project has been noted for its nuanced, expressive playing and distinctive tonal sensitivity.
