 A Southern California native, David Chang’s accolades include prizes in competitions such as Azusa Pacific University Concerto Competition, Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, VOCE, IKPA Music Competitions, and the Southern Youth Music Festival. Notably, in 2019, he won the prestigious 13th Cecilia International Music Competition in Japan. 

He has also performed in masterclasses with Ruggiero Ricci, Li Lin, Jennifer Koh, Abram Stern, Bing Wang, Lyndon Taylor, Glenn Dicterow, Aaron Rosand, Ken Aiso, Martin Beaver, Tong Wei Dong, Robert Levin, Sean Lee, Daniel Austrich, Franz Helmerson, and Glenn Dicterow. In 2022, he was appointed Second Principal Violin to Kontrapunktus. 

In 2014, David was chosen to join the inaugural class of Juilliard’s Honors Chamber Music Program, where he studied under Roger Tapping and Laurie Smukler. David performed at Alice Tully Hall with his chamber music group as a result in 2015. He was also awarded the New Horizon Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival, which he held from 2014 to 2016. 

David’s profound musical journey became in earnest after the seventh grade and under the guidance of his teacher, Margaret Batjer, Concertmaster of Los Angeles Chamber. In 2008, he was soloist with the All-Southern Middle School Honor Orchestra and also performed in the IUSD honor’s music concert. During 2011-12 seasons, David served as a co-concertmaster for the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra and was chosen to perform with them as soloist at the Renee & Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in the spring of 2012 where he performed Mendelssohn violin Concerto under the direction of Maxime Eshkenazy. During this time, he was also invited to participate as a young artist in the master class series at the La Jolla Chamber Music Festival. 

David studied with David Chan at The Juilliard School, and Varty Manoulian and Movses Pogossian at UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music for his undergraduate degree. He also completed his Artistic Diploma at Azusa Pacific University under the tutelage of Yuki Mori and Min-Jung Park.
