OpusOne International Music Festival will proudly present a Memorial Service & Celebration honoring my lifelong teacher, our beloved friend, and one of the most influential pianists and pedagogues of our time, John Perry, on July 17–18, 2026.
Professor Perry was far more than a world-renowned pianist.
He was a true mentor who shaped countless lives with wisdom, kindness, humility, and love. Through music, he taught generations of students not only how to play beautifully, but also how to live with depth, sincerity, and humanity. His extraordinary artistry on stage was matched only by the warmth and generosity he shared so freely with everyone around him.
Even today, his spirit continues to live on through the many musicians, teachers, and students around the world whose lives were forever transformed by his guidance and friendship.
This Memorial Celebration will be much more than a commemorative event.
It will be a meaningful gathering to honor and remember the remarkable life, artistry, and legacy of a truly extraordinary musician and human being whose influence will continue for generations to come.
On July 17, at Azusa Pacific University, we are honored to host a masterclass by Professor Perry’s son, Stephen Perry.
Later that evening, Professor Perry’s grandson, Perry Kufferath, will present a solo piano recital at Munson Chapel as part of the OpusOne International Music Festival.
On July 18, at California State University, Northridge, students, colleagues, friends, and admirers who loved John Perry will gather together for masterclasses, commemorative performances, and a banquet dinner as we share treasured memories, heartfelt stories, and gratitude for the profound impact he had on the international music community and on our individual lives.
This special celebration is being presented jointly by OpusOne International Music Festival and John Perry’s Family, making it all the more meaningful as it takes place at CSUN — the final institution where Maestro Perry devoted his artistry, wisdom, and passion for teaching on the West Coast.
Throughout the day, guests will enjoy slideshows and video tributes celebrating Professor Perry’s extraordinary life and artistic journey. Former students and friends from around the world will reunite once again to celebrate the beautiful legacy of a beloved teacher whose influence extended far beyond music.
In addition, a GoFundMe campaign is being launched to help support this special event. Any additional funds raised will go toward establishing piano scholarships in John Perry’s name for CSUN piano students attending the OpusOne International Music Festival, ensuring that his legacy of artistic excellence, mentorship, and generosity will continue to inspire future generations.
A great artist may leave this world, but the love, inspiration, and beauty they planted in the hearts of others live on forever.
We sincerely hope many of you will join us to laugh together, remember together, and celebrate together the beautiful life of John Perry — our teacher, mentor, colleague, and dear friend.
