Born in Taiwan, Dr. Fenia Chang began studying piano at the age of seven and made her solo debut at eleven after winning first prize in the Japan Kawai Piano Competition in Taipei. This performance was broadcast on national television in Taiwan.

Dr. Chang has performed extensively at prestigious venues across the United States, Europe, and Asia, including Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Hall, Steinway Hall, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Additional appearances include the Kennedy Center, Washington Arts Club Concert Series, Corcoran Gallery, and Friday Morning Music Club Artist Series in Washington, D.C.; Strathmore Hall in Maryland; Fairfax Auditorium in Virginia; and international venues such as the École Normale de Musique de Paris, Mozarteum in Salzburg, National Concert Hall in Taipei, and major concert halls in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shanghai.

As a soloist, Dr. Chang has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Maryland Chamber Orchestra, Irving Symphony Orchestra, Albuquerque Symphony, New World Symphony, Hong Kong Philharmonic, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, and Dallas Chamber Orchestra.

Renowned for her expressive artistry and refined technique, Dr. Chang has received critical acclaim from major publications. The Washington Post praised her as “truly one of the greatest pianists of her generation,” noting her “impeccable technique, superb tone, and sensitive touch.” The New York Times highlighted her “refined technical mastery, combining vigor and suppleness with natural eloquence.”

Maintaining an active international career, Dr. Chang performs widely as both a soloist and collaborative pianist throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. She is a prize winner in numerous competitions, including the Elizabeth Davis International Piano Competition, Thomas Richner International Competition, Concert Artists International Competition, Young Artist International Piano Competition, and the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition. She also received the Composer’s Prize at the Olivier Messiaen International Piano Competition in Paris.

Her performances have been broadcast on National Public Radio and major stations including WQXR, WNYC, WNCN (New York), WGTS (Washington, D.C.), WFMT (Chicago), and WRR (Dallas), as well as in Taiwan.

In 2005, Dr. Chang became the first North Texas-based pianist invited to perform at the Greenville International Entertainment Series. As a collaborative pianist, she has appeared at major festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival, Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, Academy of the West, and international chamber music festivals in both the United States and Taiwan. She has also toured China with the Taipei Chamber Music Players’ Society.

Dr. Chang has presented solo recitals at numerous universities, including Rice University, Baylor University, Southern Methodist University, Texas Woman’s University, Dallas Baptist University, University of Texas at Tyler, and institutions nationwide.

An active educator and adjudicator, she is frequently invited to serve as a clinician and judge for regional and international competitions, including the TMTA Regional Solo Performance Contest and the Collin County Young Artist Concerto Competition.

Dr. Chang is a Steinway Artist. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Piano Performance from The Juilliard School and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Maryland. Her principal teachers include Abbey Simon, Russell Sherman, Jerome Lowenthal, John Perry, Thomas Schumacher, and Santiago Rodriguez. Dr. Chang currently serves as the piano faculty at Dallas College at Mountain View and Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Fenia previously held teaching and collaborative positions at The Juilliard School, University of Texas at Dallas, Southern Methodist University, and East Texas A&M University.
