Dr. Janet Favreau received a B.M. degree in Piano Performance from the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music, where she studied on scholarship with Dr. Wolfgang Fetsch. She earned an M.M. degree in Piano Performance, from the University of Southern California. During this time, she spent two summers in Paris, France, studying French Literature at the Sorbonne University. Dr. Favreau was then offered a scholarship and teaching assistantship to the Advanced Artist Diploma program at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. She returned to the United States in 1991, after living and teaching in Canada and Poland. Dr. Favreau is currently on the music faculty at Loyola Marymount University and is an Associate Professor at West LA College and Los Angeles Harbor College. She has also served on the faculty of the John Perry Academy. Dr. Favreau has a successful private piano studio. She is a member of MTAC (President 1998-99), MTNA (State Competitions Chairman), Cambridge “Who’s Who in America”, Vice-Chair of the Southern California Junior Bach Festival, International Assoc of Professional Music Teachers, Executive Board of MUSYCA, and many other organizations. Her students have won many prizes including the Southern California Junior Bach Festival every year since 1994, SCJ Bach Regionals, gold, silver and bronze medals at the SCJ Bach Finals “Complete Works”, Bach Festival for Strings (chamber music), MTAC Panel Honors Competition, MTAC Masterclass, International Young Artists Peninsula Festival Competition, Liszt International Competition of Los Angeles, MTAC Scholarship Auditions, Artists of the Future Concerto Competition, Edith Knox Concerto Competition, Brentwood Concerto Competition, Torrance Concerto Competition, Redlands Bowl Young Artists Competition, Cypress College Piano Competition, Los Angeles Philharmonic Rising Stars Showcase, CAPMT Sonata Competition, CAPMT Honors and Contemporary Competition, Carmel Klavier International Piano Competition, Clara Schumann International Piano Competition, Grand Prix International Competition, Elena Cobb International Competition, International Assoc of Prof Music Teachers Competition, and others. Her students have performed as competition winners in Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, New York and have been invited to perform in the Royal Albert Hall in London as well as many renowned concert halls throughout the United States and Europe. They have also participated in MTAC and Virginia Waring International Piano Competition masterclasses, World Piano Pedagogy Masterclasses, MTAC Certificate of Merit, Honors Recitals, MTAC annual convention recitals, Liszt Festival in Hungary-Austria, Austrian Piano Festival, Idyllwild Summer Piano Festival, International Institute for Young Musicians, Eastman School of Music summer academy, Orford Summer Academy, Krakow International Summer Academy, and the Young Artists Program at the Tanglewood Festival. Dr. Favreau also judges for MTAC Competitions, Certificate of Merit, Young Artists Guild and Panel, Music Teachers National Assoc. Baldwin Piano Performance Competition, CAPMT Performance Competitions, Satori Festival and Grande Finale, Southern California Junior Bach Festival, SYMF, Peninsula Symphony “Edith Knox” Concerto Competition, IIYM International Piano Competition, The Paderewski International Piano Competition, the Long Beach Mozart Festival Concerto Competition, Los Angeles Chopin Competition, International Assoc PMT and others. Her students have been accepted as piano performance majors and minors with scholarships to such prestigious schools as the Eastman School of Music, Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Cleveland Institute of Music, Boston University, San Francisco Conservatory, Cornell University and UOP Conservatory, to name a few. She has performed solo and chamber music in the United States, and abroad. The French newspaper, Le Dauphine wrote “Janet ‘Favreau’ of the United States plays brilliantly!” She was a member of the renowned Maestrini Duo. She has given many lectures on the successful teaching of piano for such organizations as MTAC and the World Piano Pedagogy Conference, “Top Teachers in America”. In 2005, Janet Favreau was granted a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance with minors in Music Theory, Music History, and Instrumental/Vocal Chamber Music from the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California where she studied with master teacher John Perry. Dr. Favreau graduated with academic honors, and is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda Honors Society.
