Dr. ILonka Rus, a Transylvanian-born pianist, has appeared as both soloist and collaborative artist throughout the United States, Europe, South America, and Mexico. Her distinguished performing career includes appearances at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and Atheneum Hall in Bucharest. Dr. Rus is Professor of Piano and Director of Keyboard Studies at Sam Houston State University and currently serves as President of the Texas Chapter of the World Piano Teachers Association.
An internationally sought-after performer and pedagogue, she has been invited to present concerts, lectures, and masterclasses at prominent festivals and conferences in Spain, Poland, Colombia, Italy, Serbia, Romania, Peru, and Mexico. Recent engagements include performances and masterclasses at the College Music Society International Conference in Bogotá and Medellín, the Festival Internacional de Música “Ciudad de Ávila” in Spain, and the EuroArts Academy in Poland.
Her dedication to teaching has been recognized with the TMTA Outstanding Collegiate Teacher Award (2024) and the World Piano Teachers Association Certificate of Excellence Teaching Award (Finland, 2025), honoring her sustained contributions to collegiate piano pedagogy and artistic mentorship.
Dr. Rus’s students consistently distinguish themselves in national and international competitions, earning top prizes and prestigious performance invitations at major concert venues. Graduates of her studio continue to build successful performing and teaching careers, reflecting the high artistic standards, discipline, and professional preparation that define her pedagogical work.
